Christchurch Squash Club Newsletter
WE ARE OPEN.
We have had a very busy few months with the club opening, hosting tournaments, joining members and settling our feet into our facility. We are proud and so happy to say that we are now home.
As many of you will be aware it has been a long few years but our brand new and beautiful club is complete. We are so thankful of your patience during this time and thank everyone involved with the process of the build. If you haven’t come and seen it yet you need to get down there today!
Our Inaugural Tournament was a huge success with a load of entries. It was a great success lead by our incredible tournament controllers, Bruce McEachen and Adam Teo. We had great comments and suggestions about the new club which we are excited to implement. Our Open Division winners were Joe Williams and Holly Shuja. We can’t wait to host more tournaments and show off our great new facility. Congratulations to all our winners!
CHRISTCHURCH OPEN - 22-25 August
Remember to enter our last formal open tournament for 2019 . Great prizes, full bar and restaurant services throughout the tournament. Enter on iSquash or by clicking here.
A few weeks ago we ran our first doubles event on our full size courts and the response was overwhelming. For many teams it was their first time playing on a proper doubles court and learning some of the rules. We had 24 teams on the day with 3 divisions; men, women’s & mixed.
The winners were:
Men - Jason Oxenham & Scott Gardiner
Women - Grace Hymers & Sarah Cook
Mixed - David Schultz & Grace Hymers
As a result we will be running another doubles event early November with the same divisions. Keep an eye out for registrations in the upcoming months.
We recently changed the lighting format to allow a 15 minute extension to your court time providing there is no one after your allotted time. This will allow members to finish their matches.
However over the past few weeks we have received other comments regarding the court booking system and lighting control. These included:
“If I turn up early and want to warm up how do I turn the lights on?”
We are in discussion with iSquash programme developers to investigate what can be done to improve this situation.
“Why can’t I book courts concurrently or consecutively?”
The club will continue with this policy otherwise members will bulk book courts which is unfair on other members.
Change is often not received well and adapting is sometimes challenging for the members. The committee has been tasked with balancing systems with the needs of the members. It difficult to meet all the needs of all the members all the time.
NEW MOBILE APP.
We have recently configured a new mobile app to enhance your experience at the Christchurch Squash Club. The app allows us to promote events, highlight our club services and offers you the ability to buy online products and services. We are so excited about this project and hope you find it helpful and convenient.
Providing coaching services is an important component to our club so we have developed a Coaching Policy designed to support our members and our Head Coach, Tim McVie. The policy can be read by clicking here. To make contact with Tim email
You will be receiving your Cashmere Club membership cards shortly and it is important use these cards for ID purposes and also discounts. To make life easier you may wish to download an app called STOCARD. This app allows you to store the card on your phone making it more accessible for you when at the club.
As Cashmere Club members now you get the privilege of having a free birthday lunch/dinner somewhere in your birthday month.
We believe it would be great to organise a hit and lunch each month for all the birthday boys and girls.
Please email Paiul if you are an August baby wanting a free lunch and a hit with your fellow squash friends!
