Interclub Etiquette
Interclub is competitive, but it’s just as much about club culture and the social side of the game.
Traditions
-
Winners buy their opponent a drink
-
Home teams provide supper
Supper
Seniors, let’s be honest, clubs compete for more than just matches; there are also serious bragging rights on the line for the best suppers. Teams are encouraged to put on something worth sticking around for. A rostered approach works well, where players take turns providing a proper meal. Packs of biscuits and chips… less so.
Junior suppers are handled a little differently and is usually signalled at the start of each round by the parents running each division.
Team culture
-
Support your teammates and watch matches where you can
-
Be part of the team, on and off the court
-
Share out-of-town travel and the dishes afterwards.
On court
-
Play hard but fair
-
Show respect to opponents and officials
-
Follow Squash New Zealand’s Code of Conduct
-
Captains and referees manage any issues
Communication
-
Let your captain know as early as possible if you are unavailable
-
Late withdrawals let both teams down
Social side
-
Interclub is about people as much as squash
-
Stay engaged, support your team, and enjoy the evening
